A documentary film on the history of Julio Gonzalez. A first cameo will be premiered at the Fonato auditorium in Thiene on January 21st at 8.30 pm. A few minutes with private photos and videos of Julio. The rest of the documentary film will be shot in the spring and sent to the Sky editorial team for the program “Federico Buffa tells: Stories of champions”, which will be broadcast in the 2026-2027 television season.
«It all originated after the presentation of my autobiographical book “Vivo” at the headquarters of the Bar Association in Palazzo Gualdo last October 30th at the invitation of Marianno Scanniello and Antonio Buglione of the Sports Association for Vicenza – says the former Vicenza striker, whose career, as is known, was ended by the serious accident on 22 December 2005 -. It will be a sort of continuation of the book which will be followed by other projects and this obviously makes me very happy.”
The project
The architect of the project is Mariano Scanniello, company manager originally from Sapri, in the province of Salernobut resident in Thiene for 25 years: «My friendship with Julio began through a message. After the event with the young lawyers, I gave him a surprise: I got in touch with Damiano Tommasi, my long-time friend and mayor of Veronawho hosted us in the Municipality on November 7th. Think of Julio’s joy if there hadn’t been the accident 20 years ago he should have played for Roma together with him, Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi. We thought we would stay for 10 minutes but instead Tommasi kept us there for an hour and a half, leaving us with an invitation to participate in the opening of the Winter Paralympics in the Arena on March 7th.”
The documentary film instead?
«I asked myself “why not do something else besides the book about his story to capture more the attention of people who don’t know him?” I got in touch with the guys at the studio Alea Comunication by Creazzo who immediately took action to create this two-minute passage which will be presented in Thiene (where we were invited by the mayor Giampi Michelusi and the councilor Anna Savio) on January 21st, then at the Pozzoleone sports hall on February 3rd and then in Brendola.
It will become a small part of the dreal ocufilm with external shots and videos shot in the spring which will be sent to Federico Buffawho will interview Julio in the studio. In the project we will also involve his former teammates at the time of Vicenza as Stefan Schwoch. I was also interviewed by the Rai broadcast of Andrea Delogu “The magic door”. Other events are scheduled at the Le Piramidi di Torri di Quartesolo center on February 20th at 6.30pm, at the Montorso Incancina literary festival on May 8th and at the Sacrofest in Schio on May 29th.”
