In the second season of Fallout an actor from The White Lotus lent himself to a cameo and reunited with his colleague Walton Goggins: here are some curiosities about the reunion.

Among the surprises of the second season of Fallout are Prime Video there is one that made the most attentive fans smile: a small but tasty reunion that comes directly from The White Lotus. Many interesting new entries have been added to the new season of the post-apocalyptic series, from Justin Theroux a Kumail Nanjiani until Macaulay Culkin. But, apparently, the authors had kept a cameo hidden from us that we discovered only in the third episode (released on December 31st on the platform): Jon Gries appears surprisingly next to Walton Goggins bringing an unexpected reunion to the screen directly from the third season of The White Lotusprecisely.

Fallout: A Surprise from The White Lotus in Season 2

Gries plays Biff, a troubled soldier in the New California Republic (NCR). His character crosses paths with Goggins’ Ghoul, encountered en route to the Legion camp where Lucy was taken (Ella Purnell). Biff is stationed in an abandoned outpost with Rodriguez (Barbara Eve Harris) and reveals to the bounty hunter that they have had no contact with the NCR for over ten years. Theirs is a brief meeting, of course, but it certainly makes those who know the understanding shared by the two actors smile.

The bond between Goggins and Gries and the background to the cameo

The reason is easy to say: Goggins and Gries have already shared the set of the third season of The White Lotus, Mike White’s series. Set in Thailand, the season involved Gries reprising his role as Greg Hunt, ex-lover of Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge) and Goggins joining the cast as Rick Hatchett, a con man determined to avenge his father’s death. Their characters in The White Lotus are very different from those in Fallout, but their presence together in the Prime Video series turned into a delightful Easter egg.

Because Jon Gries was chosen for the role

Goggins himself, who has known Gries for many years, told the background behind the choice. For the actor, the role of Biff seemed tailor-made: someone with a particular humanity was needed, capable of transmitting empathy even in just a few scenes. Even the showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet explained to People why Gries was chosen for this small role; according to the executive producer, the actor brought with him an immediate sweetness that made the character instantly lovable: exactly what was needed to portray an NCR soldier in difficulty.

In addition to the narrative value, the reunion also had a personal aspect. Filming of the second season of Fallout took place after the completion of work on The White Lotus in Thailand, giving Goggins and Gries the chance to spend more time together. The scenery changes (from the tropical jungle to the post-apocalyptic desert) but not the climate on set, so much so that Goggins joked: “Different, but still hot.”

The second season of Fallout continues with new episodes every Wednesday on Prime Video, until the finale scheduled for February 4, 2026.
