The first images of The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim were officially presented at the Annecy Film Festival, the highly anticipated new animated film which will mark the return of the Disney franchise to the big screen. Middle Earth by Warner Bros.
During the event the film was shown with 20 minutes of footage, and although the preview was not published online (with a trailer that will be released relatively soon) fans were able to admire a series of official images published in exclusive from EW and People, who revealed the design of the main characters of Helm Hammerhand, Haleth, Hama, the evil Wulf and Hèra, who will be the first female protagonist of a Lord of the Rings film.
The Middle-earth adventure, set nearly 200 years before the events of JRR Tolkien’s trilogy, follows the powerful king of Rohan Helm Hammerhand as he defends the fortress that would become known as Helm’s Deep from a relentless and merciless siege: “This is the story of the most powerful king in the history of Rohan, someone who defeated his enemies with his bare hands“director Kenji Kamiyama told EW.”Why did his lineage have to end with him? I think there is a lesson that warns us of the dangers of arrogance in his story and also the need for responsibility and awareness of one’s power. We live in a time where, Around the world, we are once again facing the reality of war. What then is power? What is the responsibility of whoever owns it?”.
The film will be released on December 13th, distributed by Warner Bros. Among the producers there will also be Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.
