Having archived the terrible box office results of May 2024, this new weekend in June promises great things thanks to the debut in North America of Bad Boys 4new chapter of the action con saga Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
According to the first official numbers published by Variety, in fact, Bad Boys: Ride or Die grossed $5.8 million in Thursday previews at the North American box office, a notable achievement that also marks the best opening for an R-rated film since Oppenheimer: the fourth film in Sony and Columbia’s Bad Boys franchise, and the sequel to 2020’s surprise hit Bad Boys for Life, thanks to this debut, should cash in between 45 and 50 million dollars over the entire weekenda figure even higher than previous forecasts.
After the disappointing results of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and The Fall Guy, which failed to conquer the theatrical public, finally Bad Boys 4 could really kickstart the summer box office: The third film in the franchise, Bad Boys for Life, had grossed $6.4 million in Thursday previews in January 2020, before an opening weekend of $62 millioni (it also became the highest-grossing film of the year with $426 million globally after theaters closed during the pandemic), and the hope is that the new chapter can at least get as close to that figure as possible. Also because the other release of the week, The Watchers, the directorial debut of M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter Ishana Night Shyamalanis expected to gross just $10 million after taking home $1 million in previews.
