Antoine Fuqua will develop a film adaptation of the celebrated young adult dystopian novel Sky’s Endwritten by Marc J. Gregson, and quickly became a New York Times best seller in early 2024. The novel will consist of two more sequels, completing the Above the Black trilogy.

Sky’s End is an action-adventure story which takes place in Skylands, a world of islands floating above black clouds, the inspiration for the title of the trilogy, Above the Black. The protagonist of the story is a sixteen-year-old named Conrad, on a mission to take revenge on his uncle and save his sister. Trustbridge Entertainment acquired the rights to the novel, with Fuqua’s production company, Hill District Media, working on the film.

Antoine Fuqua, who will film the Netflix film about Hannibal with Denzel Washington, has successfully worked on films such as the remake of The Magnificent Seven and The Equalizer trilogy. For the director this is relatively unexplored territory; Sky’s End includes flying ships and battles with enormous monsters, and for this reason the Antoine Fuqua’s talent in action cinema could be decisive, despite his inexperience in the sci-fi genre.

The author of the book will also work on the project, enthusiastic about being able to work alongside the director:“I can’t wait for readers to see the world of Skylands, with its horrific monsters, epic battles and memorable characters, come to life on the big screen.”.
