2023 was not a good year for the superhero movies, most of which earned negative reviews and poor box office results. One of the most shocking flops, however, was that of The Marvels.
Captain Marvel earned over $1 billion in 2019 and the sequel has seen Carol Danvers paired with Monica Rambeau Of WandaVision and the main character of Ms. Marvel. Now, Deadline has crunched the numbers and revealed that the $206.1 million global gross of The Marvels they were worse than anyone thought.
According to insiders, on balance the film recorded a net loss of 237 million dollars. It is therefore not surprising that Disney’s CEO Bob Iger has stated that Marvel Studios will begin to abandon the development of unnecessary sequels. As for the future of these characters, it’s hard to say.
