In over 80 years of history, Disney has given us emotions that, depending on the age we were at the time we discovered its magical stories, we experienced differently. So, reviewing today some of the best products released over the years could, indeed, we are sure, would give us other emotions.
But what are, above all, the five Disney classics that should absolutely be revisited as adults? First of all, we need to make a premise: not every Disney product is designed in the same way. Not all stories have the dual objective of being told to both an adult and children audience. Another fundamental aspect in this selection, we have specifically chosen only Classics, excluding films of the highest level that we mention to give them the right weight. Among these, we absolutely cannot exclude Traveling with Goofy, not among the Classics but among the best products to be (re)seen today, perhaps with dad’s eyes. The beauty and the Beast
The 30th Disney Classic, dated 1991, is considered to be among the best animated films not only by Disney, but in the entire history of cinema. Revisitation of the French fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, it also takes inspiration from the 1946 film of the same name. The story focuses on the relationship between Belle, the beauty, and Prince Adam, transformed into a reluctant beast forced to hide in her cursed castle. A curse that will only be broken when someone knows how to love him for who he is. But who could ever love a beast?
The Lion King
We remain in the middle of the 90s with another timeless Classic, or rather, it once had one: 30 years to the day. Released in 1994, The Lion King is still a hotbed of ideas at Disney today, as evidenced by the work on its prequel dedicated to Mufasa in production. Watching The Lion King again today it won’t save us from crying over the death of Simba’s fatherbut it will certainly give us a reason to understand how important the reference figures are in our lives.
The hunchback of Notre Dame
Objectively the best songs in the Disney world, those from The Hunchback of Notre Dame are true works to be listened to again without interruption. The story, taken from the novel Notre-Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo, starts from the story of Quasimodo, deformed bell ringer hidden within the walls of Notre-Dame cathedral, up to the dirty and colorful streets of a fascinating Paris. Watching this animated masterpiece again today will make us appreciate not only its incredible soundtrack, but also the implications of a fascinating story centered on inclusion in a fifteenth-century European capital.
Aladdin
We couldn’t avoid including this masterpiece of animation and dubbing. Whether you want to revisit it in the original language or in our local language, you will land on your feet. Robin Williams in English and Gigi Proietti in Italian they were able to give a masterful interpretation to the Genie of the Lamp, true star of the 1992 film – what a time the 90s were, eh? Rediscovering Aladdin today, as an adult, teaches us that it is not always correct to pretend to appear for what you are not, and it would be enough to be yourself to be appreciated.
Robin Hood
Genius mixes with a classic tale, making the latter extremely original. Robin Hood is a fox, Little John a bear, Prince John is a Lion and Sir Hiss, of course, a snake. There are many reasons why you should revisit Robin Hood as an adult, but we will try to condense them. First of all because he is extremely funny and, despite being over fifty years old, he continues to raise more than a smile. Furthermore, the soundtrack is among the best in the entire Disney history, with catchy and absolutely enjoyable adaptations. Finally, the originality of the plot, as mentioned initially, which takes the protagonists and transforms them into animals, was a brilliant and absolutely winning move.
