Avatar, James Cameron’s response to Ryan Gosling’s sketch? “I don’t give a f***”

In recent days Ryan Gosling made the sequel to his famous Avatar sketch, a parody of the famous science fiction film saga, but what does its creator think about it James Cameron? It’s not hard to imagine.

It all started in 2017, when the Barbie star hosted the famous TV show Saturday Night Live, starring in a sketch that made history dedicated to the ‘Papyrus’ font used for the Avatar movie logo: written by Julio Torres, the skit revolved around Ryan Gosling’s character, Steven Wingdings, who goes crazy after discovering that James Cameron, for his ultra-mega-super billion dollar project, actually used the default font ‘Papyrus’ to make the movie logo.

At the time the director, busy making what would become Avatar: Way of Water, responded to the sketch during an interview with BBC Radio 1. “Are you asking me if that sketch haunted me? Not really, I wouldn’t say. In fact, I don’t give a damn, to be honest. It was fun, I guess. I’m just amazed that they spent so much money to make a sketch that revolves around such a trivial concept. I told my team: ‘Okay, let’s double down: starting today we’ll use Papyrus for everything.” The director spoke about it a second time during an interview with Slash Film: “The funniest thing about this whole story is that I didn’t even know that font was called Papyrus, nor that it was an existing font. I just thought the art department had invented this amazing font. Obviously it was mercilessly considered a choice resulting from lazinessbut frankly I like that type of font.”

For other readings on the saga, perhaps we have understood the big twist of Avatar 3.
