Will Brightburn 2 happen? James Gunn returns for the sequel, but this time his update isn’t positive.

Some time ago it was rumored that Evil Angel – Brightburn 2 was still under construction but, according to recent statements by James Gunn, it seems that the sequel will not see the light of day any time soon. Indeed, the update is quite pessimistic. According to the director, due to film rights the project may never start. Released in theaters in 2019, the horror film of which James Gunn was also a producer was supposed to start production on a sequel but due to some complications it seems that the second film will not be made.

Evil Angel – Brightburn 2, James Gunn dampens enthusiasm for sequel: “Unlikely to happen”

James Gunn is particularly active on social media. It is not surprising, therefore, that many of the news relating to the projects he manages leak out onto the web. Threads has become his new reference platform and it is precisely here that an unpleasant update has emerged regarding the future of Evil Angel – Brightburn. The faithful public has long been waiting for a sequel which had already been promised. It seems, however, that due to complications due to film rights of the work, Brightburn may never be made. First of all, the director and co-president of DC Studios stated that at the moment “there are no plans” for the film in question. Following this, again via Threads, he added:

I mean, we talked about this not too long ago. But the rights thing is all messed up (I only own half of it), so it’s unlikely that will happen.

The story told in Angel of Evil – Brightburn involves the cast Elizabeth Banks, David Denman And Jackson A. Dunn and follows an extraterrestrial child as the protagonist, who grows up on Earth where he discovers he has superpowers which he will deepen with evil, becoming a supervillain. At the time, he was in charge of directing David Yarovesky with a script written several years ago Brian and Mark Gunn.
