Weak architecture is the protagonist at Milan Arch Week 2024

The countdown begins for the Milanese week dedicated to architecture and urban transformations: the sixth edition of the Milan Arch Week is preparing to open its doors from 20 to 26 May, bringing together the most brilliant and interesting proposals from associations, designers, active citizens, local organizations (selected through the open call). This year, the event – which avails itself of the artistic direction of Stefano Boeri, President of Triennale Milano, and the curatorship of Nina Bassoli, curator of Triennale Milano, and Matteo Ruta, professor of the Polytechnic of Milan – adopts as its theme the weak architecture. It is that architecture capable of listening to the needs and expectations of citizens, which dialogues with the territory and its inhabitants. Implicit is the homage to two masters who recently passed away: Gianni Vattimo, philosopher of weak Thought, and Andrea Branzi, designer of a weak and widespread Modernity.WHAT TO EXPECT FROM MILAN ARCH WEEK 2024International architects and designers, emerging professionals, high-calibre urban planners and landscape architects international were invited to the Milanese event to reflect on the fragilities of the city, observing them with new eyes. The program of lectures opens on May 20th with the intervention of the architect of Lebanese origin Lina Ghotmeh at the Milan Polytechnic, and continues with the architect and professor at the ETH in Zurich Christian Kerez (May 21st. Also expected for the talk by Alessandro Petti and Sandi Hilal, founders of the DAAR – Decolonizing Architecture Art Research collective and winners of the Golden Lion at the 2023 Architecture Biennale (scheduled for May 25th), the spotlight will also be on the key issues of contemporary living: from social housing to buildings in a state of abandonment, from the reactivation of disused spaces to social inclusion up to the representation of the different communities of Milan. THE AWAITED EXHIBITION ON GAE AULENTI KICKS OFF Don’t miss the retrospective dedicated to the architect Gae Aulenti, with which Triennale Milano will celebrate one of the most illustrious designers in Italian history from 11 May. Schools, theatres, associations, libraries, gardens and churches scattered across different neighborhoods of the city are the places where the exhibition radiates: once again, it is the whole. urban area to take part in the Milan Arch Week, with a total of 80 events in 46 widespread locations. Numerous performances are on the bill – including Roberta Faust’s Fever project (on 21 May), designed to reclaim places of transition such as the city subway – but also exhibitions, such as the group show Why is living in Milan so Exhausting? hosted by the Polytechnic of Milan.
