After the public and critical success of Dune – Part 2, the making of the third film was almost taken for granted by many Denis Villeneuve fans. That confirmation seems to have finally arrived, at least according to the recent report shared by The Hollywood Reporter which reads:

Villeneuve and Legendary are currently developing a third film in the Dune series, based on the writings of science fiction author Frank Herbert. Dune: Part 2, released in theaters in March by Warner Bros., is currently the highest-grossing film of the year.

But, in the middle, Denis Villeneuve respected his wishes shared some time ago. The director told ad Empire Magazine to need take a break from Dune, as he made the first two chapters back to back while working on Arrakis for six consecutive years. His desire, at the moment, is to make a film that is not about Dune and it seems that that dream is becoming reality, because the director is still working with Legendary Entertainment to make a film adaptation of Nuclear War: A Scenariobased on the novel of the same name by Annie Jacobsen. As reported Variety, Villeneuve is reportedly in talks to produce, direct and/or write the screenplay for the film. The plot would explore “a timeline of what might happen in the event of nuclear war, based on dozens of exclusive new interviews with military and civilian experts who built the weapons and plan the response, and who are responsible for the decisions that are made in such cases”.
