While he was engaged in a long praise of the figure of Silvio Berlusconi, Andrew Giambruno talked about migrants using a term used for animals. Specifically, he defined refugee journeys as a “transhumance“: dictionary in hand, the movement of large or medium-sized animals. Thus the prime minister’s companion Giorgia Meloni he returned to the center of controversy online, where many were outraged by his sentence uttered during the broadcast of Network4 Diary of the dayconducted by him.
In fact, Giambruno had already ended up at the center of criticism for a series of outings on the climate change which supported denialist theories. New controversies at the end of August, when commenting on the gang rape that took place in Palermo, he concluded his reasoning by saying: “If you avoid get drunk and losing consciousness, maybe you also avoid running into certain problems because then the wolf you find it”.
This time Giambruno went so far as to compare immigration to the transhumance of flocks or herds. It happened during the September 29th episode, dedicated precisely to Berlusconi who would have been 87 years old. As a good Mediaset journalist, Giambruno spoke thus of the founder of Forza Italia: “I have heard it said, by Italian politicians (who perhaps hold very important roles), that Berlusconi was a formidable visionary geopolitical. That is, it was perhaps the greatest foreign Minister that the country has had in the last 30 years.” And then he added: “He had already understood everything about it transhumanceif we can define it that way, from Africa to Europe…”.
Many on social media were outraged by his words. On X, formerly Twitter, comments are pouring in like “a little bit of shame?” A user writes: “Now they will tell us, you misunderstood, I was misunderstood. Usual phrases of circumstance. The truth is that the Prime Minister’s companion is a truly useless person.” The former MP Luca Carabetta attacks: “I have yet to decide what is more embarrassing: the kneeling celebration of a journalist (?) Mediaset against Berlusconi or defining migratory phenomena as “transhumance”. “So migrants are sheep and smugglers are shepherds?”, he also comments Nino Paper chartdoctor and president of the Gimbe Foundation.
