Friday 21st April is a national strike. The trade union association CUB has proclaimed a general strike in all public and private sectors for the whole day, for shift workers including the first shift. Thus, even in Rome there may be disservices.

The Roma Capitale website has already warned users. “We apologize for any inconvenience” – reads the web portal. A mobilization which, however, seems destined to paralyze only the airports: at a national level the most affected will be the Milanese airports of Malpensa and Linate, in Rome there is a risk of chaos in Fiumicino.

The air transport strike in Rome

The CUB national secretary, Antonio Amoroso, confirmed this to the microphones of RomaToday: “The strike of 21 April will mainly involve the air transport sector but it is not excluded that other sectors may also join in no particular order”.

So in Rome from nursery schools to schools of all levels, local public transport and offices up to urban hygiene, therefore the workers of Ama. However, the outages should be limited. Fiumicino and Ciampino flights risk being grounded.

The reasons for the strike of April 21st

“The crisis in the air-airport-related sector is now over but precariousness continues, underpaid work, the cancellation of rights, job cuts, the liquidation/dismemberment of large companies, the abuse of social safety nets, the reduction of on health and safety, have transformed the aerodrome-airport-induced sector into a Dantesque group. The handling contract – reads the CUB press release – must be renewed urgently, providing for a € 270 monthly increase and around € 6,000 in arrears. 6 years after the expiry of the handling CCNL, the account is soon settled for a V level: the renewal, according to the calculation provided for by the Istat tables, in order to guarantee the recovery of the purchasing power of the salary, must include 270 euros per month’s increase and around 6,000 euros in arrears”. Hence the mobilization of air transport and airport handling workers which instead Filt Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Ugl Transport Aereo will repeat on 19 May.
