“It’s a story we never wanted to tell and that overwhelmed us with all its pain yesterday morning. Oriana is no longer among us, her smile, her sweetness, her polite ways of a woman in the prime of her beauty can only brighten the memories we will have of her forever.” This is how the press release from Pallavolo Marsala begins, remembering ‘its’ Oriana Bertolino, who died in Malta after falling off the rocks after being thrown from a quad driven by another Marsala citizen, and calling for a collection on go-foundme to bring the 31-year-old’s body back home.

Volleyball player, coach, she leaves an unfillable void in her family, in the players she coached, in all the teammates with whom she shared the playing field. She also leaves all the opponents she faced shocked in a whirlwind of messages that testify to how much good Oriana did in the lives of those who knew her.

In order to support the Bertolino family in facing the huge expenses for Oriana’s return home, a fundraiser has been launched that many are already signing and that is needed”to keep Oriana’s memory alive, transforming our pain into an act of love and hope.”
