PESCARA. «Another Ater apartment occupied in via Rossetti since last June 19». The complaint comes from Joseph Carminelliof the Iau, (Tenants and Assignees United). «The practice of illegally occupying Ater housing is unfortunately also present in Pescara», continues the note from Carminelli. «Our association had already in the recent past reported episodes of illegal occupation of Erp houses in the suburbs, asking for immediate eviction interventions to restore respect for the law and legality in the territory. Last June 19, we sent a note to Ater, the municipal police and the office for housing policy of the Municipality of Pescara to act as spokesperson for a report received from our tenants and assignees: an apartment in via Rossetti number 3 occupied by a person who had already previously taken possession of a home in the same street, but at number 9».
The occupied apartment had had as its last assignee Mr. Tommaso Romanelli, who died years ago. The house had not been assigned again, before being illegally occupied for a few weeks.
The occupation of the apartment on via Raffaele Rossetti, a stone’s throw from the sea and in the heart of the old fishing village of Pescara Sud, has brought new tensions to the neighborhood, with intimidation and threats against those who have shown dissent towards this illegal occupation. “A condition that can no longer be tolerated and that requires immediate intervention, which has so far been lacking, to restore legality and put an end to this occupation of the Ater apartment in question.” But the Iau goes even further, asking for the intervention of the prefect Flavio Ferdani to break the current stalemate in the situation of the city’s public housing: «We ask for an urgent meeting with the Municipality and Ater to address the major issue of the usability and availability of the currently closed Erp housing, which is in considerable quantity and could be made useful to satisfy the growing demand for “the right to housing” which, as we know, is particularly urgent for the weakest and most disadvantaged social categories of the city».
