TERAMO. For once, the political skirmish over the new hospital in Teramo is helping to clear the clouds and reveal the future. In recent days, the mayor Gianguido D’Alberto he wrote again to the Abruzzo Region to ask for clarity on the construction of the new facility, and yesterday he reported it to the press. The reply was immediate Paul Catspresident of the Regional Health Commission, and in this reply it is announced that the hospital will certainly not be built outside the city but in Villa Mosca, as a petition with ten thousand signatures and the city council unanimously requested.
D’ALBERTO’S REQUESTS
D’Alberto’s letter, addressed to the president Mark Marsilioto the councilor Nicoletta Veri and to the general director of the ASL Maurice Of Josiasfollows the note sent on April 4th with which the mayor reiterated the will of the Teramo city council to have a new hospital in the capital city, with second level characteristics, indicating the site in Villa Mosca, already designated for healthcare purposes, as the site on which to build it. “Although three months have passed since our last communication to the Region, we must note that no response has reached this administration”, underlines the mayor, “and there are no new documents or specific communications from other sources. For this reason, I have decided to write again to find out, with extreme urgency, the status of the procedure, if and which documents have been approved following the various communications between the Municipality and the Region, if and which decisions the Region has taken in relation to the need, highlighted several times, to allocate additional measures to those currently available (140 million, ndr), insufficient for the construction of a new hospital”. With regard to resources, in particular, the mayor highlights how “it is absolutely necessary to guarantee full financing of the work”, asking that it be clarified, through formal and immediate communication, what the real sources of financing for the intervention and the actual coverage are to date, “also in consideration of the current absence of specific regional programming acts and the need to know the true debt capacity of the Region. “Any further delay is no longer acceptable”, concludes the mayor, “now it is necessary to speed up the process and guarantee the Teramo population a new second-level hospital, a point of reference at the provincial level as well as competitive on a national scale”.
THE CATS REPLICA
“We,” he writes Paolo Gatti, «we are a little different from Mayor D’Alberto. We do not live on announcements and selfies. We are not the ones who wanted the hospital in Piano d’Accio and then changed their minds (as in his case, and fortunately). We are the ones who have always fought what he called (January 20, 2022) the “rearguard battle” for the new hospital in Villa Mosca. We are the ones who will finish this battle, for the good of the city. We are the ones who, now that the city council of Teramo has finally expressed itself, with unanimous votes, to choose the site of Villa Mosca, we are working, so that we can have a serious feasibility study, with which we can determine the methods, times and necessary resources. English: I understand that the fact that the undersigned presented an amendment to regional law number 10 of 2024, approved during the last regional council, without much fanfare, has given Mayor D’Alberto the impression that we are working and that the Abruzzo Region is serious about the new Teramo hospital at Villa Mosca. What I struggle to understand, however, is the concern, the desire to almost cover one’s back, when instead it would be enough to show interest, participation, and satisfaction. It is truly strange to read a controversy today with a request to hurry, after years and years of lethargy, and only three months after the installation of the new regional council. None of us have argued about the fact that Mayor D’Alberto, in his role as president of the restricted committee of mayors of the ASL, has carefully avoided convening this important body that would have the functions of direction, planning and control, since far away September of last year, as if there were nothing to discuss and discuss. None of us has so far blamed this political and administrative absence, declaring it unacceptable. Therefore, for the umpteenth time, I return to hope that those who represent the city of Teramo, place themselves in a condition of competitive dialogue and institutional collaboration with the Region in the interest of the citizens of Teramo, putting aside political and partisan instrumentalization, in the serene observation that, far from electoral deadlines, there is a time in which the interest of citizens and our community must absolutely prevail, even more so on an essential issue such as that of the new hospital, on which, as mentioned, the Abruzzo Region, with its president and its bodies, will shortly speak, not with announcements”, concludes Gatti, “but with concrete actions”.
