The Vice President: ‘The penalty was an injustice’

(By Lorenzo Ruggieri) Between a new season to plan and a transfer market ready to get going, the Iacovone issue is back in the spotlight at Taranto. A controversy that Vincenzo Sapia, lawyer and vice president of the Ionian club, has tried to clarify: “The stadium issue must be raised daily by the press. To date we have not received certain and concrete answers, we are only users of the structure and often we are not even invited to the technical tables”.

“Minister Abodi, during a meeting that took place more than a month ago, had confirmed with certainty the possibility of using the Iacovone with open doors, although he did not mention a precise number of spectators. When we registered for the next championship we presented a document in which the capacity is increased to 10,990 seats, drawn up by the body in charge perhaps in reference to what Minister Abodi stated. This afternoon, however, I learned that the Minister spoke of ‘wishes’. We need certainties.”

“For Commissioner Ferrarese, in fact, we will not play at the Iacovone. We do not have a signed agreement with the Municipality of Taranto, despite having requested it four or five times, because the latter is waiting for indications from the Commissioner, who in turn is waiting for the Minister’s wishes. The club’s planning and the work of Mister Capuano will depend on this. Furthermore, the CEO of Sport e Salute had guaranteed the presentation of the project by May 31, which would have included the possibility of having Taranto play during the works and for this eventuality the budget was even doubled. We are doing our best but we are waiting for the agreement. The Castel di Sangro hypothesis? I am optimistic and I believe it is a distant hypothesis”.

Penalty: “We have suffered a procedural and legal injustice. On our part there was a delay, not an omitted payment, sanctioned differently in the past. In a perfect season from a management, administrative, communication and technical point of view we have made only one mistake but I think it can happen”.
