The vice president of Taranto Vincenzo Sapia, spoke at today’s press conference to present the new season of the rossoblù club, he spoke about the delicate issue of the Iacovone stadium and the penalty issue. Here are his words:

”The stadium issue must be followed on a daily basis and what I ask of you in the press is to follow the story well, especially trying to understand what the political class wants. We are simple users and, often, we have not been protagonists of the story. President Giove has always reiterated that, during the meeting with Minister Abodi and the Commissioner of the Mediterranean Games Massimo Ferrarese, the same minister reiterated that Taranto will play with open doors with 10,000 spectators and not with 2,000. To date, however, we have no official confirmation and President Giove together with Mister Capuano would like to know as soon as possible where to play and where to train. Among other things, the curious thing is that then the minister spoke of hope. The stadium issue is crucial for Taranto’s present and future project. This must be clear. We agreed that there was a project to have Taranto play during the works but even here it is quite complex that this could happen and be careful about making hasty comparisons with other events such as that of the Bergamo stadium. The thing I want to point out is that we have never been invited to the technical tables. Today we are waiting to sign the agreement with the Municipality of Taranto which is waiting for news from Commissioner Ferrarese on the actual possibility of playing at the Iacovone. I want to point out that for the registration to the championship the Municipality of Taranto gave us the fundamental document in which it is specified that the stadium can hold 10,990 seats but we are still waiting for certainties that we do not have. In any case I want to be optimistic and think that Taranto will not have to be forced to emigrate elsewhere playing in its own stadium”

On the issue of penalization: ”I consider the penalty issue an injustice that we have suffered, although it is understood that there was an error because the payment was delayed. But be careful. We are talking about a delay in payment and not a failure to pay. In these cases there have been precedents that are very different from those that Taranto has suffered this year. There had never been a penalty of four points, which was abnormal. There was a different interpretation that the Sports Justice gave. In any case, it was an error that, however, certainly cannot undermine the excellent work that this company has done this year”
