Medical director from 2010 to 2012 at the General Surgery department in Canosa di Puglia, from 2012 to 2017 at the Admission and Emergency Medicine and Surgery department, also in Canosa di Puglia, and then since 2017 medical director at the General Surgery department of the Andria Hospital, Dr. Petrarota has performed numerous surgical interventions as 1st operator and as assistant surgeon, both elective and emergency, in various fields of interest, including interventions for breast cancer, colorectal surgery, abdominal wall pathology, laparoscopic surgery.
In the last few years he has performed about 200 surgeries per year in Day Service as 1st operator and about 100 surgeries per year at the General Surgery of Andria. For Oncological Breast Surgery he has performed 237 surgeries in the last 6 years.

“Our activity – explains the head of the UOSVD of Breast Surgery of the ASL Bt – is closely linked to that of the Breast Unit and the Screening Center for the prevention and fight against breast cancer. The Breast Surgery Operating Unit, in fact, is among the services that make up the multidisciplinary group of the Breast Unit of the ASL Bt and that deals with the management of breast cancer, from diagnosis to treatment and follow-up. In addition, the specialist breast surgery clinics will soon be activated in Barletta, Trani and Bisceglie while the clinic at the Bonomo in Andria is already operational”.
The Operating Unit of Breast Surgery of the ASL Bt deals with the diagnosis and treatment of neoplastic breast diseases. It carries out its clinical activity with a multidisciplinary approach, guaranteeing patients integrated and personalized diagnostic and therapeutic paths.
“We are able – concludes Petrarota – to intervene with a wide range of therapeutic options, with non-mutilating interventions, but also with the possibility of prostheses and lipofilling, as we are able to perform all types of necessary interventions. Early identification of tumor pathologies is fundamental and this is why prevention and multidisciplinary collaboration that occurs through the Breast Unit and the territorial organization of breast screening are of primary importance”.

“We are giving a new important boost to the management of breast cancer – says Tiziana Dimatteo, General Director of the ASL Bt – adherence to breast screening is very good and allows us to make early diagnoses also thanks to the use of latest generation mammographs in the area. The strengthening of breast surgery that uses expert surgeons who have developed specific expertise, allows us to intervene effectively and quickly. The excellent organization of the Breast Unit and the contribution that comes from all the operating units involved, allows us to respect the treatment times that can be chemotherapy or radiotherapy, to do rehabilitation and to follow the subsequent control phases”.
