The public prosecutors of the Catanzaro DDA Vincenzo Capomolla (acting prosecutor), Antonio De Bernardo and Annamaria Frustaci appealed against 67 people already judged, in the first instance, within the proceedings Scott Rebirthinstructed by the District against the Vibonese ‘Ndrangheta thighs and their associates.
Among the people for whom the second degree trial has been requested are the lawyer and former parliamentarian Giancarlo Pittellialready sentenced in first instance to 11 years’ imprisonment for external complicity in a mafia association (the prosecution had requested 17 years).
Appeal also to the lieutenant colonel of the Carabinieri Giorgio Nasellisentenced to 2 years and 6 months, accused of having revealed investigative secrets requested by Pittelli.
The former regional councilor also faces trial before the Court of Appeal Peter Giamborino for whom the DDA had requested 20 years of imprisonment for mafia association and who was sentenced by the Court of Vibo Valentia to one year and six months for illicit influence peddling.
Review of sentence requested also against the boss of San Gregorio D’Ippona Saverio Rational sentenced to 30 years but not for all the crimes charged by the prosecution.
The DDA also appealed against the acquittal of Gianluca Callipo, former mayor of Pizzo and former president of Anci Calabria acquitted of the charge of external complicity in a mafia association. An 18-year prison sentence was invoked against him.
The acquittal, however, becomes definitive for Louis Incarnateformer regional councilor for whom the prosecution had requested a sentence of one year and six months.
Last November 20, the Court of Vibo Valentia imposed 207 sentences and 131 acquittals on 338 defendants.
Today the prosecution is asking for an appeal for 67 defendants. There are therefore 65 positions for which the acquittal, in the absence of appeal by the Anti-Mafia Prosecutor’s Office, becomes definitive.
