Rome, 1 July. (askanews) – Even in Italy the results of the French elections are being studied, where the right of Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National took almost 30%, less than in the European elections but enough to be the first party. The newspaper headlines go wild focusing partly on the blonde leader of the RN, partly on the defeat of President Emmanuel Macron whose party came third. We will vote again on Sunday 7 July in the second round, where alliances of the left and the center are possible to block against the RN. In the center of Rome, many citizens say they are worried, in one sense or another. “I read it in the newspapers and I’m a little worried but it was quite predictable. There was no surprise, that’s all” says Vincenzo Rulli, a philosophy student. “Well, since Italy is also moving to the right, I think that Europe is moving towards the right a bit. Let’s hope that everything goes well” according to Mario Tagliaferri, a pensioner “Worrying, there is a shift towards the radical left which is very worrying” says Eugenio, lawyer “I hope that in the run-off the Republican front can slow down this race of the extreme right a bit, a blocked parliament will remain but this is better than Le Pen’s absolute majority” says Paolo Ricci, a lawyer.
