Federconsumatori Campania organizes a crucial event to address the growing problem of Online gambling in the province of Salerno. On July 10, 2024, at the Conference Hall of the Chamber of Commerce of Salerno (Via Roma 29)starting at 10am there will be a Round Table entitled “Mafias, Addiction, Young People: The impetuous growth of online gambling in the province of Salerno.”

The event will be coordinated by journalist Brigida Vicinanza del Mattino and will see the participation of leading guests from Salerno institutions, organizations and associations. The Mayor of Salerno, Vincenzo Napoli, will open the proceedings with his greetings; then there will be speakers Giovanni Berritto, President of Federconsumatori Campania, Massimiliano Vigarani, researcher and author of “Il Libro nero dell’azzardo” for Federconsumatori Modena, and Antonio Apadula, General Secretary of the CGIL of Salerno. The latest data report a worrying situation: the province of Salerno is among the most affected by the plague of online gambling. The province is in eighth place nationally according to the “Black Book of Gambling 2024” for per capita spending on online gaming and boasts two municipalities in the national top 100: in addition to Castel San Giorgio, the absolute leader, in 41st place in the ranking there is also Capaccio-Paestum.

This phenomenon not only has devastating economic implications, but is closely linked to the increase in social problems, addictions and criminal activities. The meeting aims to analyze the phenomenon of online gambling and its impact on the young population and families, examine the links between gambling and mafias, discuss the prevention measures and interventions necessary to combat the phenomenon, and promote greater awareness and more widespread information in the area.

The event is open to the participation of local associations, who are invited to make their contribution and join the discussion to build together an effective strategy against gambling.

Giovanni Berritto, President of Federconsumatori Campania, declared: «It is essential to act promptly and with determination to stem the expansion of gambling, which is devastating the lives of many young people and their families.

Collaboration between institutions, associations and citizens is essential to create a common front against this phenomenon”.
