Storms and strong winds expected, yellow alert in part of Calabria

Rome – A disturbance, arriving from central Europe, will bring, from the early hours of tomorrow, a new worsening of weather conditions on most of the peninsular regions, with precipitation, mainly thunderstorms, in particular on the internal and Adriatic areas of the center-south. A strengthening of ventilation from the north-western quadrants is also expected, with greater effects on Sardinia, Sicily and the extreme southern regions, associated with a general drop in temperatures. Calabria will also be affected by this disturbance.

Based on available forecasts, the Civil Protection Department, in agreement with the regions involved – which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the affected territories – has issued a new warning for adverse weather conditions. The warning predicts strong to stormy north-westerly winds from the early hours of tomorrow on Sicily, extending to Calabria, in particular the areas of the Strait of Sicily and the Ionian sectors, with storm surges along the exposed coasts. Scattered precipitation, mainly in the form of showers or thunderstorms, is also expected from the early hours of tomorrow on Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia, extending to Campania and Basilicata. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind. Based on the forecasted and ongoing phenomena, a yellow alert has been assessed for tomorrow, Tuesday 2 July, on Veneto, part of Tuscany and Umbria, on the entire territory of Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Puglia, Basificata and part of Calabria.
