During a service aimed at combating drug trafficking, the Carabinieri arrested a 50enne Martinese, allegedly responsible for drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
I Carabinieri of the Operational Section of the Martina Franca Company, after having identified a marijuana cultivation near a country house, in recent days, they positioned themselves near the house and, with a precision binocularsthey noticed the frequent movements of the man who went from his home to the vegetable garden next to the house itself to carefully tend his plants, watering them and cultivating them regularly.
Therefore, in the afternoon hours yesterday, at the right time, the Carabinieri intervened and found 15 marijuana plants approximately one and a half meters high, and, after a careful search inside the house, they recovered almost two and a half kilos of marijuana-type narcotic substance, packaged for storage and subsequent resale, in 7 vacuum-packed bags weighing 100 g. 300 each, a stick of hashish, also vacuum-packed, weighing 100 g. 100, and finally, another narcotic substance of the marijuana type, kept in a glass jar, weighing 100 g. 350. The search was also extended to the apartment on the first floor, still owned by the man, but in use by a 52-year-old friend of his, who in the meantime had become untraceable, where another marijuana-type narcotic substance was found, already packaged in 2 envelopes vacuum-packed with a total weight of gr. 356, contained in turn in a glass jar, a digital scale and packaging material.
The narcotic substance, the result of intensive marijuana cultivation, which would have fueled the local illicit marketas per practice, was handed over to the specialized staff of the Narcotics Analysis Laboratory of the Provincial Command of Taranto, for subsequent investigations.
The arrested person, without prejudice to the presumption of innocence until the final sentence, after the ritual formalities on disposition of the Judicial Authoritywas taken to the Taranto district prison awaiting validation while the 52-year-old, who was untraceable, was reported in a state of freedom to the Ionian Prosecutor’s Office.
