The former head of the Port of Genoa, Paolo Emilio Signorini, remains in prison at the moment, and today the Court of Review of Genoa rejected the request for a review of the precautionary measure in a better sense for the defendant.

His lawyers had asked for a mitigation in the direction of house arrest.

Signorini is the only one among the suspects to have been detained in the Marassi prison since May 7th as part of the investigation into corruption in Liguria.

The order rejected the request but essentially opens up the possibility of granting house arrest to the former president of the port authority. House arrest which was not granted in the absence at the time of a logistical solution linked to ‘where’ the suspect should be served for his arrest.

Initially, two solutions were proposed: the first was to have them serve their sentences inside the ex-wife’s home in Rome, the second in the brother’s home in Aosta; both solutions being deemed unfeasible, an apartment in Genoa was chosen, but there was no technical documentation on who could pay for it.

Today’s decision on the merits is assessed by the defense legal party as positive. Once the problem is resolved, Signorini’s lawyers will then be able to make a request directly to the GIP of Genoa Faggioni, confident that they will be able to see the review of the measure granted.
