Large tree trunks in the middle of what remains of the cycle path that should connect Recanati, Porto Recanati and Montelupone represent, in addition to a serious danger for those who travel it on two wheels, also a bad, very bad calling card for tourism in the area and one of the major symbols of the misuse of public money. In this season, when cycle tourism is at its peak, the path, in the part under the jurisdiction of the Leopardian town and the coastal one, “really sucks” as many people with a passion for cycling among the greenery of our plains complain.
“What is saved – TM, from Recanati who loves riding two wheels, tells us – is only the part that falls within the Montelupone territory. Instead, near the Astea reservoir, in Chiarino, at a distance of 200 meters in recent days I came across three fallen trees right in the middle of the track: one of the trunks was right behind a bend and represented a danger for those traveling the track with your own bike”.
For the construction of the path, the process began in March 2020 when the Region made the sum of 650 thousand euros available to the Leopardi municipality to create the 23 km cycle path that winds from Porto Recanati, along the Chiarino di Recanati district, up to to reach San Firmano di Montelupone. More than a year later, June 2021, the executive project, drawn up by the architect, was approved. Omar Pasquinelli, and in July the Recanati company Bartolini begins work.
After 6 months, a first modification to the project arrives for “unforeseen and unforeseeable works for the construction of new drainage channels (Astea well area) and of the drainage channel cordon (canal in the Chiarino area)”; two months pass and the need for extraordinary maintenance for the cycle/pedestrian crossings arrives.
Then comes the bad weather and exceptional meteorological events that cause serious damage to several stretches of the Potenza river bank and cause the landslide of a section of the newly built cycle path.
Today it is largely impassable, except with great skill and contempt for danger, and from a social point of view the track, never patrolled, has become a convenient highway for all kinds of illegal activities.
