Carpi, it’s a Serie C with many big teams

Carpi, it’s a Serie C with many big teams

Another dimension. Carpi finds its place again in Serie C, but scrolling through the names it almost seems like going back to 2019, to the good times of Serie B. The next Serie C “Now” tournament will see the newly promoted team facing clubs of a certain appeal, such as Ascoli, Pescara, Perugia, Spal, Entella and Ternana, all faced in the most important five-year period in the city’s more than one hundred year history of football.

A group, the “central” one, that embraces half of Italy, ten regions, from Lombardy (the newly formed Milan Futuro, the Under 23, to be clear), to Molise (Campobasso), with a flight to Sardinia (Sassari, against Torres). Veneto represented by the Veronese of Legnago, Emilia-Romagna offers a couple of regional derbies (against Rimini and Spal), then there is Liguria (Sestri Levante and Virtus Entella), then the Marche (Vis Pesaro), Tuscany (Lucchese, Arezzo, Pontedera and Pianese), Umbria (Gubbio, Perugia and Ternana), then Abruzzo (Pineto and Pescara).

A beautiful and fascinating championship, heterogeneous and difficult to interpret, given the difficulties of the supposed “big”, with their coat of arms covered in dust from protests and corporate impasses. The “little” Carpi will try to have its say, never biting off more than it can chew, with only one goal in mind: safety, an enjoyable game, careful management and a relatively low average age. The first official announcements will be made on Monday, after the confirmation of mister Serpini and his staff, the arrival of a new ds (Bernardi, former Fiorenzuola, in place of Motta) who is thinking about the difficult construction of the team. In the meantime, the club is taking care of every organizational detail and will soon have a store with official products, branded by a well-known company from Bologna that will take care of the set-up in the former “fan-zone”.

The date

Gathering in Carpi on 15th July, from the 29th retreat in Fiumalbo until 7th August. It is the third year in a row that the Apennine location hosts the red and whites. On 11 August the first round of the Italian Cup (to be determined), a week later the second. The championship starts on the weekend between 23 and 25 August, structured as is known into three groups, with the advance on Friday and the rounds on Saturday and Sunday with the times communicated from time to time by Legapro. Three midweek shifts (24/25 September, 29/30 October and 11/12 March 2025). Break on 29 December, last day 26/27 April. Then the playoffs.

A bit of history

Carpi returns to the third level of Italian football after three years. For the red and white colors it is participation number 35, number 16 in “Serie C” to which are added the 7 appearances in “First Division” in the twenties and thirties, the 10 consecutive in “C1” between 89 and 99, and the two in “Lega Pro” between 2011 and 2013. A long history that continues under the leadership of debuting president Lazzaretti

Previous

Never in the championship with Pineto and Sestri Levante, but not even with Pianese and Campobasso, faced in the championship pool in May. Regional and “chromatic” derby with the red and whites of Rimini, challenged in 21/22 in Serie D (Romagna first but beaten at Cabassi). Scent of Serie C with Gubbio, Arezzo, Perugia Vis Pesaro and Legnago, faced in the 20/21 season, the last of Carpi Fc 1909 before bankruptcy. We return to Serie B to find Pescara and Ascoli (last meeting in 18/19), Entella and Ternana (17/18), then Spal (16/17). We have to dig even further to find among the opponents Pontedera (2009/10 in Serie D), Torres (1999/2000 in Serie C2) and Lucchese (even in 1989/90 in C1).
