Messina, 26 June 2024. Fighting gender violence starting with words. This is the important theme that will kick off the V edition of the Adolfo Celi Award, promoted and organized by the CIRS Casa Famiglia ETS with the patronage of the Municipality of Messina, the regional department for Tourism, Sport and Entertainment and the regional department for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity. On Thursday 27 June at 3.30 pm, the former Chemistry classroom of the University of Messina – rectorate complex, will host the training event promoted by Cirs and sponsored by the Order of Journalists of Sicily entitled “Gender violence and language: when the right words create prevention”.
The debate moderated by the Rai Sicilia journalist promises to be interesting Antonella Gurrieri. In fact, we will talk about an important and highly topical issue on which Cirs has decided to turn the spotlight, confirming its social commitment. The meeting will stimulate reflections for correct and informed information, on the weight of the terms to be used and the words to be avoided to avoid shifting attention from the victim to the executioner. And the rules to follow will be illustrated to distinguish, without the possibility of error, when the killing of a woman can be defined as “femicide”, because the words of journalists have weight and contribute to forming public opinion. Participating journalists will be awarded 5 ethical training credits.

There is also great anticipation for the event planned at Villa Cianciafara. At 6.30 pm, in the suggestive spaces of the historic residence of Zafferia, the director and writer Stefano Reali will present his book “Shakespeare AEnigma”. The work tells the story of John Florio, Giordano Bruno’s interpreter and translator at Oxford, who was commissioned by the Queen of England to produce some of the texts later attributed to William Shakespeare himself. A story that also sees Messina as a protagonist. Journalist Milena Romeo spoke with the author. The meeting will be enriched by a reading by the actress Alexandra Celi, daughter of Adolfo Celi.

29 June grand solidarity gala at 8.30pm – Arena Cicciò Palacultura: evening show in which the “Adolfo Celi Awards” will be awarded to actors, directors and personalities from the world of cinema and culture.
