Theologian, ‘we need ethics for algorithms’

TRIESTE, JUNE 26 – “We don’t want to set limits, but to indicate an ethics for algorithms, aimed at the common good”. Monsignor Ettore Malnati, theologian and former episcopal vicar, said this today, recalling the objectives of the Trieste Charter on artificial intelligence. The purposes of the document were reiterated today in Trieste by the members of the committee that was responsible for drafting the text, promoted by the cultural association Studium Fidei: medical lawyers, teachers, entrepreneurs and journalists. The various articles address the need to protect the world of work, companies and healthcare, but also the need for specific training on the topic. A particular focus was also dedicated to copyright. “We need rules to safeguard it – underlined Andrea Bulgarelli, member of the committee and Fvg coordinator of Figec Cisal – it is essential to protect the works so that they are not ‘stolen’ from the web, as can happen for example with articles or videos”. In the meeting it was also highlighted that “AI represents a new frontier of human progress, with the potential to significantly improve our daily lives. However, the realization of this potential requires an approach that considers the ethical, regulatory, social and economics of AI”. (HANDLE).
