The president of Emilia-Romagna, Stefano Bonaccini, elected at the European elections with the Democratic Party, announced to the regional legislative assembly that in two weeks he will resign from the position he has held since 2014. “They have been ten complicated years,” he said, recalling events such as reconstruction from the earthquake, the pandemic and the flood – Yet it has been ten years that has seen this Region stronger than before”.

Bonaccini: “They have been ten tiring years but the Region is stronger than before”

“I will resign one minute after” the G7 for science and technology in Bologna “out of respect for this international event which honors Bologna and Emilia-Romagna”. This is what Stefano Bonaccini said to the legislative assembly of Emilia Romagna. The newly elected MEP with the Democratic Party underlined: “In these two weeks, as announced, we will close all the acts that will ensure all the measures, funding and rules for the next few months of weakening of powers so that there are no gaps and slowdowns”.

The now almost former governor of Emilia Romagna continued: “They have been ten complicated years, if we think that we have gone through the tragedy of the earthquake and its reconstruction, the pandemic, which the world has not known for a century and the flood of last year”. However, there are many positive elements recalled by Bonaccini of the experience leading the Region: “It has also been ten years that they have seen this region stronger than before. I don’t know in how many other situations, after a devastating earthquake, a deadly pandemic and a flood terrible, you could say the same thing: stronger than before.”

Many satisfactions were retraced in the speech to the legislative assembly: “There have been international and national recognitions, and being able to close my experience by going to see the first 3 stages of the Tour de France, with 2 million people expected on the roads, is a satisfaction enormous. A few days after being able to close my experience as president of the Region with the G7 is a satisfaction that I would never have believed in, even from a political point of view.”

Then, Bonaccini concluded his speech by recalling the successes of the centre-left, from the European elections to the recent round of the administrative elections: “The centre-left, in the last 3 years, has gone from governing 6 out of 10 to 8 out of 10 capitals. In the last 3 years from 8 to 12 out of 12 cities with over 30 thousand inhabitants. The same result as my preferences is a recognition not so much of me, but of the work done together in recent years”.
