Catanzaro – In the first six months of 2024, Calabria recorded a 25.89% increase in requests for properties from foreign buyers, with Americans leading the way followed by Germans and British. The data emerges from the report on the real estate market data of the region by Gate-away.com, the portal dedicated to foreigners who want to buy a house in Italy. “Calabria – states the co-founder of Gate-away.com Simone Rossi – has always attracted the attention of international buyers. However, during the first half of the year, this interest translated into a real boom, with a significant increase in requests for properties coming from beyond national borders” According to the report, requests from US citizens reach 32.42% of the total requests. Next we find Germany with 12.65% of preferences, the United Kingdom with 9.69% of requests and Canada with 8.46%. Of note in terms of increase compared to the first 6 months of 2023 is the boom in the United Kingdom with growth of 86.18% y/y, followed by Australia with +75% y/y, Belgium +56% y/y and Ireland +52% y/y. Where they are looking for a home Among the provinces, Cosenza is the most sought after with 69.28% of requests in the period. Followed by Vibo with 19.13%, Catanzaro (9.1%), Reggio Calabria (1.57%). The province of Crotone closes the ranking, recording 0.93% in the period. As regards the Municipalities, the preferences reward Scalea with 19.34% of the total requests.
Tropea follows with 11.13% and Corigliano-Rossano which scores 8.97%. In terms of annual performance, the Municipality of Soverato leads the ranking with a leap of +66.13%. Preferences on the type of property sought are concentrated in the “apartment” category with 51.46% of the total, followed by the “detached house” category (11.38%) and “villa” (10.62% of the total). “The numbers from Calabria are indicative of a positive trend in terms of interest from international investors – adds Rossi – and foreigners who visit the Region as tourists, fall in love with an area and subsequently begin to look for a second home, to spend part of the year there or to move”.
