Boccaleone. He returned home on foot, after spending a couple of hours in the company of friends, at the town bar, a place he used to frequent every day. It was around 1.30pm on Tuesday 25 June when fate, lurking in wait, took him away forever. The man, Arrigo Toschi, 77 years old, single, was struck by a sudden illness that left him no escape while walking toward his home, on the Adriatic State Road, in Boccaleone, where he lived alone. He had almost reached his destination when he felt ill, collapsing to the ground along the edge of the road.

The traffic, diverted onto alternative routes, ran close by and the alarm was immediately raised, raised by residents, neighbors and drivers of passing vehicles. The SOS was picked up by the Carabinieri, local police and 118 who gave him first aid as soon as he arrived. Unfortunately, every attempt to resuscitate him was in vain: there was nothing more that could be done.

“He was a nice person, sociable, very active until he had health problems, in the world of volunteering – recalls Isabella Baroni, president of the local council – always ready to lend a hand in the organization of events, projects, festivals and celebrations in favor of our community”. His passion for cycling comes to mind. “Every morning – says a neighbor – he got on his bike and pedaled for four kilometers to the Consandolo train station. He took the train to Bologna, where, once again getting on a bike, he reached his workplace on the outskirts: a cycle factory. Then again, but in reverse, every evening.”
