He was a known suspect in the Schengen area for serious crimes – including conspiracy crimes and murder – and there was a European arrest warrant issued in Belgium hanging over him. The man, a thirty-five year old of Albanian origins, was intercepted in Verona by agents of the Verona flying squad.
The activity of locating the wanted person was carried out by the Service for International Police Cooperation in collaboration with collateral foreign bodies thanks to an information system that allows the information acquired by the various Police Forces to be processed in real time: the operation, developed last week on the input of the liaison expert for Belgium, it saw the intense collaboration of the flying squads of Verona, Treviso and Brescia and the air border police offices of Treviso and Villafranca di Verona.
The constant monitoring of airport transits and the full synergy between the investigative offices involved made it possible to detect the arrival of the fugitive, together with his family, at Treviso airport where, after disembarking, he escaped in a car which was waiting for him outside the airport.
His escape, however, was short: at the end of a complex arrangement of stalking and observation services, thanks also to extrapolated images, license plate reading systems and computer searches, the man was intercepted by the State Police in Verona. The agents of the flying squad captured him and, having spotted him driving the car, followed him and stopped him at the entrance of a building where he was probably seeking refuge.
The Albanian fugitive, now in handcuffs, will have to serve his sentence in Belgium.
