“Ilaria Salis pay her debts”, motion to seize her current accounts: brawl in the Lombardy Region

The brawl broke out during the last Lombardy Regional Council: the object of the conflict is once again the question of the presumed alleged illegal occupation of public housing of the newly elected MEP Ilaria Salis. The motion that sparked tensions, presented by Brothers of Italywants to engage the president Attilio Fontana to urge Aler – the main company that manages public housing in the region – “to immediately initiate legal procedures” for the recovery of the alleged credit of 90 thousand euros towards Salis, who you defined as one “request without evidence”. Credit that should also be collected through “recourse to seizure of current accounts”.

The motion

The motion was presented by the Melonian councilor Marcello Ventura. In the text, which has been modified compared to the original version, it is explained that “it has been ascertained, despite the requests from the managing body” that Salis “has not paid the accumulated debt” and to guarantee “compliance with the rules by all citizens” it is considered appropriate to “proceed with the adoption of effective measures for the recovery of sums owed”.

The noise in the classroom

As soon as the discussion of the motion, which was supposed to be voted on last week, began, the chaos in the classroom. The noise erupted especially from the centre-right benches during the speeches of the opposition councillors Honorio Rosati (Left Green Alliance) e Nicola Di Marco (5 Star Movement). The racket was such that the session was interrupted to restore order. After a suspension of a few minutes, the work resumed with the interventions of the councillors Luca Paladini (Civic Pact) e Marco Bestetti (Brothers of Italy).

Salis’ opinion

Regarding the controversy over the occupation of public housing, Salis had expressed herself a few days ago declaring that “whoever enters a uninhabited house it takes without taking away from anyone except degradation, racketeering and property developers.” “Being an occupier – she said – means inhabiting this precarious space and laboriously transforming it into a place that can be called home, trying to fix it with the few means available that you have.”
