the proposal after the tragedy in Udine

Salmé’s proposal: name a street after Shimpei Tominaga.

Naming a street after Shimpei Tominagathe entrepreneur who died after four days of agony due to the attack he suffered for having attempted, during the night between Friday and Saturday last, to break up a fight in the center of Udine.

The proposal comes from the municipal councilor of Free Voters-Io Amo Udine, Stefano Salmé which asks for an exception to the rules (which for naming require that a person has been missing for at least ten years) “as act of gratitude to his heroic civic sense and to everlasting memory“.

The president of the council group, however, does not limit himself to that and proposes one different recipe for safety from the measures taken by the De Toni council: “The situation of insecurity in which the city finds itself is the product of decades of demagogy on the immigration front. Think about it now solve the problem with contingent ordinances, under the pressure of a rightly impatient public opinion, it is understandable but doomed to failure“.

Salmè’s proposals.

“There responsibility for the protection of public safety lies with the government national; Minister Piantedosi, as already denounced by the Police unions, take note of the serious staff shortage of the Udine police station and guarantee that injection of personnel useful to deal with the security emergency in the city” says the city councilor.

As regards the responsibilities of the municipal administration, Salmé asks for the adoption of “necessary and fair” measures: the ordinance signed by mayor De Toni not only turns out to be a palliative compared to the demand for security that comes from the population, but ends up hitting precisely those public operators who, not only are the first victims of the climate of insecurity, but who are above all the first sentinels of legality in the area. Banning the consumption of alcohol in Borgo Stazione alone creates a stigma not shareable. The inevitable frictions that will arise from the application of the ordinance will be paid by the commercial establishments with sanctions, suspensions and closures, exactly as in the past”.

“Our proposal goes exactly in the opposite direction: the municipal administration establish an ad hoc fund to help businesses hire security personnel on the weekends. The set of security personnel in the various premises will, in fact, constitute a “safety net” which is added to that guaranteed by the police forces and will also improve the so-called perception of security”.

“Let it be foreseen, at least on weekends, a night shift (from 10.00 pm to 4.00 am) of our Local Police, drawing on the overtime scheduled during the night. If the Regional Law prevents this (150 staff staff are needed), action should be taken in Trieste for an exemption that allows the capital of Friuli to act autonomously. For the city of Udine, a limited number for asylum seekers and unaccompanied foreign minorsproportionate to the number of inhabitants and the police force of the Udine Police Headquarters”.
