There Financial Police of Reggio Calabria celebrated yesterday 250th anniversary since its foundation with an official ceremony at the Strait Arena.
The event saw the participation of local authorities and included the raising of the flag, the reading of messages from the President of the Republic and a Special Order of the Day from the General Commander, Gen. CA Andrea De Gennaro. The Provincial Commander, Gen. B. Maurizio Cintura, highlighted the commitment of the financiers in protecting the legal economy and presented awards to the distinguished soldiers.
GdF: “All-round” commitment against crime to protect citizens and businesses
From 1 January 2023 to 31 May 2024, the Guardia di Finanza carried out 2,806 inspections and 433 investigations to combat economic and financial crimes and criminal infiltration. This intense activity aims to protect families and businesses, with particular attention to the resources of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Fight against fraud and tax evasion
The inspections identified 48 total evaders and 162 irregular workers, with 86 people reported for tax crimes. Furthermore, assets worth 3.8 million euros were seized and proposals were made to terminate the VAT number for individuals at tax risk. The excise duty audit revealed fraud on approximately 1,600,000 kg of energy products.
Protection of public spending
The Financial Police monitors the correct use of EU and national resources, with 105 interventions aimed at verifying the correctness of tax credits and financing. In terms of national public spending, 549 interventions were carried out, with a particular emphasis on citizenship income and new social inclusion measures.
Fight against organized and economic-financial crime
The action against organized and economic-financial crime included 48 interventions in the field of money laundering, resulting in the reporting of 62 people and the seizure of assets worth over 1.5 billion euros. Over 4,368 kg of narcotic substances were seized, highlighting the importance of combating illicit trafficking.
Rescue operations and participation in public order and safety services
The Guardia di Finanza employed 2,260 man-days in public order services in 2023, participating in events of national and international importance. This commitment demonstrates the active role of the Corps in managing public safety.
