Avellino: Serial Robber Acquitted by Naples Court

Avellino

Late yesterday afternoon, the collegiate court of Naples North, presided over by Stefania Amodeo, acquitted GS, a forty-year-old multiple criminal Pomigliano d’Arcofor not having committed the crime.

GS, not present in the courtroom as he is under house arrest for a previous robbery committed in a mobile phone shop in the center of Avellino, he was accused of being the head of a gang specialized in scooter robberies between Naples and the province.

The facts date back to 11 August 2020 when a minor, returning home at night on his motorcycle, was approached by a scooter with two people on board near a supermarket in Casoria.

The criminals, after forcing him to stop by blocking his way, ordered him to hand over the vehicle. Upon initial opposition from the minor, the two men got off the scooter and pulled out their guns, pointing them at the young man’s head and side, telling him in Neapolitan dialect: “get out of the vehicle and go away.

The seventeen-year-old was then forced to get off the motorcycle, handing over the ignition remote control as well as his cell phone and his wallet.

Once home, the minor told his mother what had happened and the police were immediately alerted. When they arrived on the scene, they collected the complaint and the statements of the young man who claimed to have seen the faces of the two robbers and to be able to recognize them.

The seventeen-year-old, in particular, described the tattoo he had seen on the arm of one of the robbers, the one who had pointed the gun at his side, depicting two diamonds joined together.

Once the investigations began, a confidential source indicated to the Carabinieri a place near Piazza Boris in Pomigliano d’Arco where a motorcycle, probably of furtive origin, had recently been hidden.

The soldiers of the Pomigliano d’Arco barracks immediately went to the indicated place where they actually found the stolen vehicle.

The vision of the cameras installed near the site of the discovery allowed us to see that, shortly before, three young people, aboard three vehicles, including the stolen one, were in Piazza Boris.

The Carabinieri recognized the forty-year-old GS in particular. A photo album was therefore prepared containing the effigy of GS. The minor, called to the barracks, undoubtedly recognized GS as the one who was behind and who had pointed the gun at his side.

Yesterday GS was acquitted for not having committed the crime. The arguments supported in a tight harangue by his defender, the lawyer, are fundamental Rolando Iorio from Avellino, which highlighted a series of inconsistencies between the statements of the offended person and the identification of the GS as the perpetrator of the robbery. Inconsistencies relating precisely to the age of the robber and the absence of the tattoo seen by the minor. The GS risked a sentence of more than 6 years.
