Beko Europe, table at Mimit: Tuscany asks for framework agreement at national level

The meeting for Beko Europe was held today at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, for an initial discussion on the prospects of Italian factories after the merger with Whirpool. Interested Regions and Municipalities, trade unions and the company were present. For Tuscany there was Valerio Fabiani, Eugenio Giani’s advisor for work and corporate crises, who in the past has followed the events concerning the Siena site, one of the five production centers in Italy.

The expectations for some initial indications from Turkish managers were disappointed. “Beko Europe essentially limited itself to taking a photo of what already exists, without clarifying intentions and prospects for the Italian sites. We cannot afford to navigate by sight, especially in a strategic sector such as the production of household appliances, and wait for the industrial plan which, the company has clarified, will arrive in the autumn” declared Fabiani. For this reason, the Tuscany Region proposes a framework agreement to be signed as soon as possible at an institutional level with Mimit, the Regions, the Municipalities, the trade unions and Beko “to define a path towards the plan with some clear guarantee elements for the protection of workers and sites”. This last point is asserted by Tuscany with specific reference to the Siena plant: “In the meantime, elements of protection and guarantee are needed, the site is already exhausted and cannot bear any further sacrifices” concludes Fabiani.
