“One million euros for the church of San Michele”

One million euros from MIT for the restoration of Church of S. Michele Arcangeloin Manduria, damaged by the 2018 tornado. This was made known by theHon. Dario IaiaIonian deputy of FdI.

“The important church, of undoubted historical and ecclesiastical value, was admitted to a tender promoted by the Ministry of Infrastructure which will therefore allow access to the funds necessary for the recovery. The interest of Father Alessandro M. Greco appointed by the Prior Provincial and by the council of the Province of SS Annunziata dei Servi di Maria, to follow the works after the damage caused by the violent tornado of 2018that of the FdI city councilors, Silvia Mandurino and Roberto Puglia were decisive, as was the work carried out by the Mandurian engineer Antonio Cimino”.

Iaia continues: «At the same time, the support of superintendency of Taranto and in particular of Simonetta Previtero led to today’s result. These are very profound works, so much so that the MIT will provide over one million euros, as per the decree, for the total restoration of the church. At the moment, we continue to follow the bureaucratic process step by step which will lead to the start of the works and which will pass through other step. In fact, the Board of Public Works is expected to decide on the contracting authority for the works and therefore the tender will be launched.

As confirmed by Father Alessandro Greco, the impossibility of accessing municipal funds or other institutions has been overcome thanks to the MIT and I am really happy because the collaboration between the parties and everyone’s commitment will finally lead to the reopening of the churchlocated at the entrance to Manduria and a point of reference for the faithful.”

The church of S. Michele is a place of worship linked to the Virgin of Sorrows and in fact boasts one of the most beautiful statues of the Madonna. Also suggestive is the canvas depicting San Michele and dating back to the second half of the 18th century. The ownership of the building belongs toOrder of Servants of Mary who worked to deal with the very serious damage caused by that whirlwind. «Unfortunately made unusable since then, I am convinced that the Church will return to being, as soon as possible, a place of welcome, prayer and listening» adds the parliamentarian.
