Architectural barriers, a walk downtown for a more accessible city

The first “urban walk” foreseen by the participatory route of the PEBA, the municipal plan for the elimination of architectural barriers, is scheduled in Piacenza on the morning of Wednesday 26 June – barring adverse weather conditions.

Starting at 9am from Palazzo Farnese and arriving at 1pm in Piazza Mercanti, in front of the Town Hall, 15 technicians identified by the professional associations and five employees of the Municipality of Piacenza will follow an itinerary which, winding through some predefined stages, will be divided into streets, squares and public spaces of the historic centre: they will be supported not only by the councilor for Urban Planning Adriana Fantini, by the councilor for Social Services Nicoletta Corvi and by the professionals entrusted with the drafting of the Plan, but in the different observation points they will be able to compare themselves with some citizens who experience different types of fragility – from motor and sensory disabilities to the need to move around with a simple children’s stroller – thanks to the collaboration with the numerous local associations involved by the guarantor Miriam Stefanoni and the PEBA municipal representative Alessandra Bonomini.

Among the sensitive places that the event, the first of a series of similar initiatives, will examine, the accessibility of the Civic Museums and the municipal offices located in Palazzo Farnese, the street furniture of the small square between via Della Ferma and via Giordano Bruno, the Merluzzo Gardens, the Passerini Landi Library, the offices in the Town Hall and the adjacent public bathrooms.
