ANCONA – The fishing ban, the Government’s legislative provision which aims to protect the most widespread marine species, favoring their natural reproduction, is changing and becoming more flexible. If the period is more or less the same, starting on 31 July and ending on 16 September (in 2023 it started on 29 July until 9 September) from Ancona to Civitanova, what changes are the fishing days. In San Benedetto del Tronto, however, the boats stop from 16 August to 29 September. The news arrives with the latest Giverno decree.
The Ancona navy is satisfied, albeit with some doubts. «The whole fishing system has changed – he explains Apollinare Lazzari, of the fishing producers cooperative of Ancona – thanks to the new government decree which accepted requests that we had been making for many years”. Among the new features are the fishing days, standardized throughout the Adriatic, and fishermen will also be able to lower their nets into the sea on Saturdays and Sundays as long as they do not exceed three days of fishing.
«We are very satisfied – he declares Francesco Caldaroni, president of the Italian Navy – the fishing ban has not changed, but the fishing days have and allow us “three days of fishing without any distinction between large boats and small boats, without the need for additional days”.
Lazzari explains that the three-day system allows shipowners to «regulate the markets better, because we can distribute the 72 hours of fishing over four days and therefore if there are fewer fish we can fish for just 12 hours instead of the mandatory 24 hours previously . For us it is a nice decree.” A measure that also allows you to avoid losing days of work, for example due to bad weather.
The only doubt raised by the Ancona shipowners is that relating to the same fishing days granted both to those who fish with a single net and with a double net, despite the fact that in this last case the fishing company has a decidedly greater productivity: «Those who fish with two nets can fish for three days like those who fish with a single net – explains Lazzari – whereas previously they had to fish for a day and a half». The risk, according to the shipowner, is that the quantity of fish caught will double, not allowing the fish population to have the time necessary to reproduce, which is why “we asked the minister for a change”.
However, Caldaroni is not of the same opinion, according to which since the double net allows you to fish more and therefore have a greater income «everyone should fish with this system. A company cannot be forced to work less just because it produces more than others. Every company must put itself in a position to improve to produce more and better”
