We receive and publish the press release of the Tivoli 5 Star Movement announcing the confirmation of Stefano Chirico as the party’s citizen leader.
“The assembly of members of the 5 Star Movement of Tivoli confirmed Dr. with a unanimous vote. Stefano Chirico in the role of citizen manager on the basis of a platform which, starting from the analysis of the vote, aims to relaunch the action of the M5S at all levels, in continuity with the experience of 48 Piazze. In Tivoli we didn’t go to the run-off but we obtained an excellent result: before the vote, they gave us 10% and we came out of the polls with 25%. Because the voters rewarded the work done in the city to build ‘from below’ a project of real change based on the one hand on listening to citizens and, on the other hand, on the participation with equal dignity of various political forces and civic lists that , as equals, have created what in our opinion can represent a model, a political laboratory to be followed also on a regional and national scale.
However, the centre-right won, abstentionism is at record levels and we certainly cannot be satisfied with the result. There are many reasons, the analysis is complex but one significant fact emerges: on the other side there was no complete progressive alternative, because the Democratic Party was missing, whose fundamental mistake, not only in Tivoli, was that of not having fully understood that we need to change the paradigm. We need to abandon hegemonic temptations or presumed ‘majority vocations’ that are completely out of place in the current context and change logic: move from the concept of ‘alliance’ to that of ‘political project’.

To be even clearer, it is not a question of making agreements with this or that, but of starting to work as we have done and will continue to do in 48 Squares: with humility, as equals, to build the alternative on the issues by involving the progressive forces in a political project that can speak to the hearts and minds of people to change not only Tivoli, but Lazio but the whole of Italy. We are here. In 48 Squares, with 48 Squares to give continuity to this great political project which is already well defined but which can now be further implemented starting from the opposition work in the City Council and, above all, from continuity with the approach followed from the first day: house by house, street by street, square by square.
