Contributions for caregivers of family members with disabilities have also been confirmed for 2024. This was established by the Tuscany Region, which also defined the distribution of resources (1 million and 800 thousand euros). The monthly contribution of 400 euros will be assigned as a priority to caregivers of people with very serious disabilities, and to accompanying programs aimed at deinstitutionalization and reunification of the caregiver with the assisted person.

With the Regional Council Resolution 126/2024 the Tuscany has taken steps to renew the disbursement of contributions in favor of the caregiver of family members with disabilities also for the year 2024and defined the allocation of resources (contained in Annex A of the same Resolution). The amount allocated is equal to 1,811,685 euros.

As regards the identification of those entitled, the quantification of the contribution and the access methods, the “Address lines for the use of the Fund’s resources to support the care and assistance role of the family caregiver”, as amended by Regional Council Resolution 717/2022 (contained in Annex A thereof), except than what is indicated in point 2) of the paragraph on Recipients, where the item “caregivers of those who have not had access to residential facilities due to the emergency regulatory provisions, proven by suitable documentation” is intended to be cancelled.

In particular, the guidelines referred to take on the definition of caregiver contained in article 1 paragraph 255* of Law 205/2017; specify that the primary objective of the Fund «is to give support and relief for the family caregiver’s role of care and assistance, guaranteeing fair and homogeneous responses across the regional territory, improving the quality of life and promoting a global care process, centered on the person and their families”; specify that it must be given between caregivers priority to interventions towards caregivers of people with very serious disabilities (as defined by the legislation), as well as to accompanying programs aimed at deinstitutionalisation and the reunification of the caregiver with the assisted person; establish that the amount of the economic contribution is equal to 400 euros per month.

Yes access the contribution through a request to take charge and evaluate the disabled or non-self-sufficient person (or, if necessary, a re-evaluation for people already in charge of the services), to be carried out at the appropriate offices access points to local health and social services. The request will be examined by a special team who will assign the treatment contribution by referring to the clinical conditions and needs of the disabled or non-self-sufficient person, as well as the level of care load/stress of the family caregiver. The contribution is not a substitute or compensatory one, but rather additional and complementary to home access by healthcare personnel (specialist doctors, therapists, nurses, OSS), and is compatible with other economic contributions or services provided with the same purposes of supporting the stay at home of the person with disabilities or non-self-sufficiency, including attendance at a day center.

We remind you that the Tuscany Region has already activated a system for a few years Listening center for family caregivers (read about it at this link), and is working on one Regional law proposal having as its object the “Provisions for the promotion and recognition of the figure of the family caregiver” (a presentation of the same is available at this link).
