The soldiers of the Carabinieri Station Command of Librino, together with those of the Investigative Unit of the Environmental, Agri-Food and Forestry Police (NIPAAF) carried out an in-depth Environmental Police investigation at a company based in Catania, in the Stradale Gelso Bianco peripheral.
In the circumstance, at the start of the inspection action, it was first ascertained that the owner only had an authorization for the trade of vehicles and not for the sale of used spare parts.
Furthermore, the illegal resale took place not only inside a warehouse but also in an area of approximately 170 m2, built with a sheet metal structure, without any building permit.
In both areas the military found numerous shelves full of used spare parts, but the owner had no invoice for the purchase of that goods, the origin of which became clear when, at the back of the building, the Carabinieri found 5 cars partially dismantled, which had been entrusted to the owner of the company to be scrapped.
A car demolition under penalty of law, therefore, but without any authorization, which took place in an external yard through the use of hydraulic cranes, blowtorches and various tools, in an unsuitable storage area, in which waste had also been piled up such as tires, rubber sleeves, metal brackets, wheel arches, and vehicle engine parts.
Furthermore, nearby, still in the external spaces, several precarious covers had been created under which the Carabinieri found the internal parts of the cars, such as the seats and door panels, which were then resold.
The premises were not even equipped with waste water pipes, so during the rains, everything was spilled into the street.
