BRINDISI – The triathlete from Brindisi Ruben Benigno has qualified for the Ironman 70.3 world championships to be held in New Zealand on 15 December 2024. The local athlete won the pass for the world championship event on Sunday 23 June in Hoorn, Holland, closing the average triathlon distance in 4h32′.
The forty-one year old from Brindisi, owner of a well-known medical practice in the capital of Brindisi, began practicing the “triple” three years ago with the aim of being able to participate in the world championship in Taupo in New Zealand, perseverance and determination being his main characteristics, he trained at the most absurd times and in the most unthinkable weather conditions with a big dream in his chest that finally became reality today.
Ruben is trained by the Varese coaches Agostino Bosio and Mattia Luciano and plays in the ranks of the Brindisi-based company Zzw Triathlon chaired by Gianluca Volpe, the team of triathletes born in 2021 from the idea of 6 boys who started practicing this sport with passion, today the company has 20 triathlon athletes and 30 track and field athletes, the local association is increasingly becoming a point of reference for local triathlon and if the institutions and some sponsors support it next year it intends to organize the first triathlon competition or duathlon in Brindisi.
In the meantime, many Zzw athletes are preparing for the Ironman 70.3 in Cervia which will be held in September with the hope of seeing some other kids participate in the world championship in New Zealand.
