“Rebound!” is born, the first Sicilian festival of contemporary percussion

From 27 June to 5 July the first edition of the “Rebound!” festival will take place between Motta Santa Anastasia and Catania.

Produced by Kilim Music Factory and Zō Centro Culture Contemporanee of Catania with the collaboration of the Municipality of Motta Sant’Anastasia and the “Gabriele D’annunzio” comprehensive institute in via Ragusa a Motta, the festival will offer seminars, workshops and concerts with insights from different aspects and instruments of the world of percussion.

Project, coordination and artistic direction are by José Mobilia, production is by Kilim Music Factory and Zō. First concert, on 27 June, with free admission in the village under the Motta Castle, that of the percussive ensemble Percussio Mundi directed by Giovanni Caruso.

The concerts will take place starting from Thursday 27th in the village of the Norman Castle of Motta Sant’Anastasia, at the foot of the steps in via Regina Bianca, every day from 9pm, except for the 4th July event which will be held at Zo again at 9pm .

The teaching moments will consist of the scheduled seminars. “Marimba, vibraphone and set-up, the solo repertoire for the percussionist” edited by Rosario Gioeni; “The percussion section in the symphony orchestra, instruments and repertoire” edited by Giovanni Caruso; “Symphonic timpani, technique and repertoire” edited by Marco Odoni; “Jazz drums, reading and interpretation of the big band to the small group” edited by Peppe Tringali; the piano in chamber music by Ketty Teriaca; percussion ensemble by José Mobilia. This last seminar will also be part of the international cultural exchange project “Boarding Pass Plus (Mic 2022-2024)” of Zo Centro contemporary cultures of Catania, with two final concerts held with some of the artists from the five European countries involved.

The workshops were created to give everyone the opportunity to approach music in a playful way and in a group dimension. For the little ones there are workshops on music in play and body expression by Claudia Guidi and body percussion by Giuseppe Costa. For musicians, workshops are planned on the language of Bol – the Indian sung solfeggio – curated by Riccardo Gerbino; of bodily expression by Claudia Guidi; of body percussion by Giuseppe Costa. A free meeting on the musician’s health will be with the osteopath and posturologist Mattia Mannino.
