“The tragic passing of Satnam Singhthe agricultural worker who died in the countryside of Latina in shocking and deplorable circumstances, once again recalls the urgency of continuing to tighten controls against the sad phenomena of gangmastering and the exploitation of labor in agriculture”.

The underlines it president of Copagri Tommaso Battista (in the photo), announcing the Confederation’s participation in today’s demonstration in Latina against gangmastering and exploitation, organized and promoted by the local Indian communities in memory of the laborer who passed away a few days ago.

“In the face of facts of such unprecedented gravity it is difficult to find suitable words, but at the same time we cannot remain silent, as there is much more at stake than the economic stability of companies; for this reason, we reiterate the need, already advanced in numerous institutional forums, not least in the discussion held at the Ministry of Labor with the ministers Marina Elvira Calderone and Francesco Lollobrigida, to take back control and properly promote the single institutional platform for ‘intermediation of labor in agriculture, while working at the same time to cross-reference the databases available to the PA”, adds Battista.

“Only in this way, in fact, will it be possible to have a significant impact on what is a real plague to be eradicated from the country, a dramatic phenomenon which, in addition to agriculture, affects various other production sectors and which must be fought without ifs or buts, in as in addition to exploiting the difficult conditions of workers, it damages the vast majority of agricultural companies that operate within a legal framework and which have long since started a virtuous path in line with the positive and acceptable objectives of Law 199/2016″, observes the president of Copagri.

“The Confederation of Agricultural Producers has always been and will continue to be at the forefront to protect the many ‘healthy’ agricultural companies, which suffer from this unjust unfair competition and, above all, to combat with ever greater determination a hateful and unacceptable phenomenon, which is present in a widespread manner across the entire territory and which casts shadows on an entire sector”, concludes Battista.
