Twenty years of UniMarconi: leading the digital turning point

THE OCCASION

It was 2004 when the first university based on digital teaching was born in Italy: the Guglielmo Marconi University. Today that experimental project turns 20 years old. A sector that brings together over 300 thousand students, with a method based on flexible study, quality teaching and orientation for accessing the world of work. The university celebrated its birthday with a solemn ceremony in the University’s Aula Magna, in Via Vittoria Colonna in Rome. Among the guests also the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana, who in a video message praised “the innovation and constant growth of the Guglielmo Marconi University”.

«Twenty years ago – said the president of UniMarconi, Alessio Acomanni – we changed the rules of Italian academic education, making them in step with the times without ever betraying our two historic strengths: quality and seriousness. Today, we must look to the future with the determination to start a third revolution for our University, addressing our educational model to the global market and promoting social inclusion.”

THE NUMBERS

Six faculties, from Economics to Educational Sciences, passing through Engineering, Law, Letters and Political Sciences. Twenty-one undergraduate courses, ten international courses, and more than 60 postgraduate courses.

This is the training offer of UniMarconi, which registers 30 thousand graduates, all with high percentages of satisfaction: according to the data provided by the university, 95% of students are satisfied, while 85% of graduates find work after the training course Education. Also thanks to collaborations with more than 800 companies where students can carry out internships and internships. To enrich the offer, there are also 20 training courses, workshops and a specialization school for legal professions. Added to this are research activities and study courses in English, Russian and Greek to create professional figures capable of operating in international contexts.

«Marconi University has demonstrated an excellent reputation – commented Alessandra Gallone, Delegate Councilor of the Ministry of University and Research – I wish this University many more years of success and innovation».

ONLINE LEARNING

For the rector Marco Abate, «one of the main challenges of our university is to create a learning environment that is as interactive as possible, in which students can act». Interaction is in fact the main strength of the university, the first in Italy to have understood the possibility of using technologies in the academic field. A model that was then perfected over the years and led to the creation of a virtual teaching platform that is continuously adapted to the needs of students.

In digital spaces, students can access teaching material, follow virtual classrooms, interact with tutors and contact their teachers. “The adoption of digital technologies was unthinkable twenty years ago for traditional universities, but it proved essential during the pandemic,” recalled the rector of the University of Foro Italico, Attilio Parisi.

Services which, however, must go hand in hand with the quality of the training offer, underlined Antonio Felice Uricchio, president of Anvur, the national agency for the evaluation of the university and research system. “International evaluation rules are very important to maintain high quality standards,” Uricchio said. A factor, that of quality, which combined with that of flexibility makes the University a university appreciated by its former students: «UniMarcosi made my dream come true: graduating in psychology – says a former student – it is my second degree and if Had there not been these methods, between family and work I would certainly have had to give up.”
