CAMPOBASSO – Marialuisa Forte of the centre-left is the new mayor of Campobasso. She was the first woman to occupy the top step of Palazzo San Giorgio in an exciting head-to-head in the run-off with Aldo De Benedettis, candidate of the centre-right who stopped less than 400 votes behind his opponent. A victory on which at the moment the new mayor does not place or rather does not think about the shadows of a municipal council where the majority does not assign her enough numbers to govern 16 seats against the 17 of the center-right resulting from the first electoral round. “Today we are thinking about celebrating this wonderful victory – declared Marialuisa Forte after the polls were closed – We will administer for 5 years, trusting in everyone’s help with a program that will involve everyone without thinking about lame ducks and so on but hoping for understanding and sharing of everyone, including citizens. I thank the political forces that helped me, the alliances that were not based on slogans but on ideas and programs.” For those who ask her, the first interventions she will implement she undoubtedly indicates the policies for the most vulnerable and as a school woman she anticipates a table permanent on thematic issues with all the institutes of the regional capital, while dedicating the electoral success to their parents. Obviously with a city council in which there are 17 councilors in her favor or rather from the centre-left, at least for the moment, there are those who suggest that Forte go to the chamber at Palazzo San Giorgio with a program or pact for the city to which ask for transversal sharing, from right to left, which could be difficult to disengage from in front of citizens. A hypothesis that at the moment Aldo De Benedettis, despite serenely accepting defeat, announces that he will make a very tough opposition, constituting, verbatim, “a very long thorn in their side” but above all he announces that he will appeal for the 700 null ballots for which he will ask for verification ” For now there is a majority in the council that belongs to the centre-right, we will see the evolution of many things in the next few days. We certainly won’t hinder those who want to work for the good of the city, the important thing is that Forte works for Campobasso. I have nothing to reproach anyone for, I thank the citizens and the city councilors who supported me, I gained a fantastic experience as a candidate for mayor which made me meet many people in the districts and in the countryside, it is clear that I expected a few more votes compared to the Forte, but it is equally clear for me now to wait what happens for many situations that are pending”
