BUSTO ARSIZIO – «Give us back the Textile Skatepark». Now they are there too a collection of signatures, which has already achieved the goal of 500 signaturesand a demonstration to try to bring back facilities for skaters in the former ice rink in the Textile Museum park. The appointment has been set for Sunday 7 July: «Bring your children in skateboards, skates, scooters to make people understand how important that safe space is for us” was the appeal of the promoters of the mobilization.

The dismantling

It all started with a banner in the park of the Textile Museum, signed by “i raga del Tessile”that is, the frequenters of the Skatepark which was built at the beginning of the Antonelli administration, when Stefano Ferrario was deputy mayor and councilor for sport. “The Plaza Shed” – that was the name of the structure curated by the same group of enthusiasts who in the past had managed the indoor Skatepark (“Il Capanno”, in fact) in a warehouse in the Frati district – had been removed around the end of Maythus leaving young people and teenagers without a point of reference for their skateboard stunts.

«Expelled from the center, give us a space»

Now “the boys” they ask the city for help to get that space back “safely”with the online petition of 500 signatures and the spontaneous awareness raising event which will be held on July 7th. What if the sports councilor Maurizio Artusa in the press he had quantified the expense for the restoration of the structures at 140 thousand euros, the visitors of the former Skatepark don’t give up: «We guys we are tired and feel cheated – we read in the text of the petition – we did not destroy the park, and we will not allow ourselves to be blamed for something that the municipal administration should have taken care of. We skaters ask to have a skatepark back in Busto Arsiziosince young people, today more than ever, need free, public places to gather, to meet, talk, skate, have fun in company. Under the porticoes or in Piazza Santa Maria we were chased away several timesas they are considered noisy and dangerous for others: if you don’t want us on the street, sign, so we can get our place backwhich we can maintain and fix ourselves.”
